In Washington State, students in grades 3-8 now take the Measurements of Student Progress (MSP) tests in May; and high school students take the High School Proficiency Exams (HSPE) in March and April. The two tests replace the statewide Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) test.
State tests are intended to assess whether students have sufficiently mastered a set of grade-level standards for a particular subject. Scores for the MSP or HSPE are reported in four levels: “Exceeds Standard,” “Meets Standard,” “Below Standard,” and “Well Below Standard.”
The Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) has posted the MSP and HSPE test results statewide, for each district and each school. The two new tests are very different from the WASL, so comparisons can be challenging. View the Bellevue School District results.
