State Test Scores Released

In Washington State, students in grades 3-8 now take the Measurements of Student Progress (MSP) tests in May; and high school students take the High School Proficiency Exams (HSPE) in March and April. The two tests replace the statewide Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) test.

State tests are intended to assess whether students have sufficiently mastered a set of grade-level standards for a particular subject. Scores for the MSP or HSPE are reported in four levels: “Exceeds Standard,” “Meets Standard,” “Below Standard,” and “Well Below Standard.”

The Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) has posted the MSP and HSPE test results statewide, for each district and each school. The two new tests are very different from the WASL, so comparisons can be challenging. View the Bellevue School District results. To see the results for individual schools, click on the drop down arrow on the Summary field, select a school and click the green Go button.

Equity Leaders Committee

A little known district committee has been busy researching the concept of “equity” as it pertains to the education system.  The committee brings together representatives from the district, PTA, Bellevue Schools Foundation, and two parent advisory groups -- the Parent Action and Advisory Council and Impulso Esolar Latino de Bellevue.  It calls itself the Equity Leaders Committee.  The work of the committee is being reported on the district blog.  Members have completed Phase 1 of their charge, namely, creating a definition of “equity” and would like staff and community to comment after each blog posting.
