Conduct research in a laboratory setting in which you will be prepared with hosts who will aid you in expanding your scientific understanding of basic biology and who will additionally empower you to experience all that research has to offer. You will be working with other high school interns as well, and in addition to pushing the research knowledge of this lab, you will also participate in helping the rest of your community learn the science that you have learned through various education programs that the lab implements.

    • Our program is based on the theme of exploring biology using skills in coding, math and statistics. This angle of teaching biology makes the field come “alive” transforming it into an interactive puzzle, rather than just rote memorization of facts! The tremendous achievements made by the biomedical sciences community during the Covid-19 pandemic has been centered on this approach to tackling the scientific challenges.

      • Advanced Coding for Medicine course: Returning students who have completed already  Intermediate Coding For Medicine courses in previous years are eligible to join the Advanced Course.  They will work on research-type problems in two areas – gut microbiome and human ancestry. Students are expected to have strong skills in both coding and biology to join this module.
      • Catching Pokemon with CodingFor Middle schoolers exclusively as they take first steps to understand how to juggle data. This fun course uses Pokemons to learn to code in R. R is the premier language for data science and is used extensively by researchers. It is also really easy, and even the middle-schoolers have no problem learning it. Final dates have not been announced but please register and let us know your choice.
      • Microbial Mysteries (biotech lab) : ONLY for students in Seattle and around. The lab course will happen subject to Covid public health guidance during summer. But if you are interested please register for this course on our site to be in the mailing list for the lab course specifically.
      • Statistical Concepts through Coding (expected FALL COURSE): A new course being offered to introduce data science at the intersection of computing, statistics and basic sciences. You will learn to use R programming language and apply it to solve cutting-edge problems in biology and medicine based on data science concepts.
