Congratulations to Newport High School for placing second in the 2016 Orca Bowl Competition.  More than 100 emerging young oceanographers and marine biologists from high schools participated in the event on Feb. 27 at UW’s Fishery Sciences Building.

Teams competed in a round-robin tournament followed by a double elimination round.  Students answered questions in all areas of marine studies, including ocean related physics, chemistry, geology, biology, social sciences and technology.  The end goal was to nurture a new generation of marine scientists.
