Congratulations to the girls of Sammamish High School’s robotics team Robototes Team 2412, which made it to finals in the state’s FIRST Girls Generation competition on Oct. 22 in Covington.  Team members included: Brielle Chenier, Mikaela Ikeda, Amanda Manea, Juliana Mckeehan, Eevee Partin, Allison Tang and Abbi White.

During Girls Generation competitions the girls compose the drive team of four people and have to repair anything that goes wrong, while the boy team members are encouraged to cheer on the girls.

“This competition allows girls to experience STEM activities which will hopefully encourage them to consider STEM careers,” said Kim Herzog, team mentor and Sammamish teacher.

Sammamish won eight out of nine qualification matches, made it to finals, and came home with a finalist trophy.

“I think this is especially significant because our team was mostly made up of freshmen,” said Herzog.  “They showed a strong commitment to teamwork and problem-solving at the competition.”
