Congratulations to the Newport, Bellevue and Interlake drill teams for their success earlier this month at the Washington State Dance/Drill Coaches Association (WSDDCA) Competition, hosted at Lake Washington High School.

Individual awards were received by Newport sophomore Kaylin Kojima, who placed second in the novice drill down, and Newport senior Stephanie Lu who placed first in the advanced drill down.

The three BSD schools cheered on one another during the different events.  Over the summer the three teams attended a camp together to bond the teams, create dance routines and work on techniques.  Newport’s drill team coach, Sarah Major, said “It was evident at the competition that we are supportive of one another and want the best for each other.”

Dance/drill teams compete at several competitions during the season, and must have a minimum score of 195 points in order to qualify for the district competition in early March.  Once at district teams must score at least 210 points to advance to state, which will be held in Yakima on March 24-25, 2017.
