Congratulations to Clyde Hill fifth graders Melody Kim-Heinsius and Isaac Cho who placed in the top ten in the 20th annual Washington State Celebrate America Creative Writing Contest!

Kim-Heinsius won first place for her realistic fiction piece titled “Purpose,” and will advance to the national level.

Cho placed in the Top 10 Finalists for his poem, “What Kind of Country America is With Immigrants.”

The contest challenged students across the country to write about the theme, “Why I am Glad America is a Nation of Immigrants.”

The Bellevue School District acknowledges that we learn, work, live and gather on the Indigenous Land of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Duwamish and Snoqualmie Tribes. We thank these caretakers of this land, who have lived and continue to live here, since time immemorial.
