Highlights

Director of Facilities & Operations Jack McLeod asked the board to approve Sammamish High School Change Order No. 8 in the additive amount of $185,765 bringing the total construction contract amount to $90,789,125. Changes include: added joints, beams, panels, framing, a solar panel shutdown, green roof irrigation, and a wall pad in the gymnastics studio; fire alarm and exit changes, safety changes to the mechanical room, approved overtime for gym electrical, and parking lot revisions. The board approved the request.

Newport High School Principal Dion Yahoudy and assistant principals Myra Arnone, Tom O’Connor, and Derrick Richards presented a school progress report.

Curriculum developers Eric Nelson and Cathy Wellington presented a report on Reading and Writing (ELA). The report highlights student progress, addressing equity and inclusion in ELA, and professional development focused on cultural awareness and culturally responsive teaching and learning.

Director of Research, Evaluation & Assessment Naomi Calvo presented a Student Satisfaction Survey Report. The survey highlights students’ perception of school climate, pedagogy, engagement, classroom environment, and relationships with staff.

The board had a Board Vacancy Checkpoint. The board received four applications for the vacant seat. Interviews were to be held Jan. 17 at a special board session.

The board discussed attendance at district graduation ceremonies.

Superintendent Duran updated the board on the 3-5 Year Strategic Plan with a written timeline.

The board conducted a first reading of Policy 3115: Homeless Students and a first reading of Policy 3520: Student Fees, Fines, or Charges.

The board approved a revised resolution from the Jan. 2 board meeting to affirm its commitment to serving each and every student with particular attention to instilling a culture of service that promotes racial equity and the inclusion of special needs students.

The board discussed the planning of its February workshop.

The board reviewed a written action items update.

The Bellevue School District acknowledges that we learn, work, live and gather on the Indigenous Land of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Duwamish and Snoqualmie Tribes. We thank these caretakers of this land, who have lived and continue to live here, since time immemorial.
