Last night, we were alerted by multiple parties about an alleged threat against Newport High School. District staff immediately contacted the Bellevue Police Department who investigated the threat and determined it to be unsubstantiated. I want to stress that there is no imminent threat, but out of an abundance of caution, there will be extra police presence on Newport’s campus today.

We want to thank members of our community for alerting us to this potential safety issue. Our most precious resource is our students. As a school, district, and community, we will continue to focus on keeping our students safe and secure in our schools.

The Bellevue School District acknowledges that we learn, work, live and gather on the Indigenous Land of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Duwamish and Snoqualmie Tribes. We thank these caretakers of this land, who have lived and continue to live here, since time immemorial.
