Over the past few years, changes to the Washington Administrative Code have led BSD to implement additional service models to meet the learning needs of students identified for gifted services.  In addition to the self-contained model offered at Cherry Crest, Medina, Somerset, Spiritridge, Odle, Tyee, and Interlake, BSD now offers services in all neighborhood/choice schools.  These services are offered through a variety of models to include the K-1 service model, the (K-12) differentiated services model, and the domain-specific service model (K-2).  In response to the implementation of the new service models and feedback from students, parents and staff, BSD’s Gifted Program will now be known as Advanced Learning Services.

We will continue to identify and serve students in need of advanced learning opportunities. This name change will not impact the learning opportunities currently labeled as “gifted” in our schools.

We are pleased to note that this name change reflects much of the feedback we have received from students, parents and staff. We would like to thank everyone who took time to share their suggestions.
