Are you interested in helping the Bellevue School District ensure that we serve each and every student as we begin to roll out our new strategic plan for our students and our schools?

To affirm Bellevue School District’s commitment to provide a positive and supportive learning environment, we are forming an Equity Advisory Group. We will engage a diverse breadth of voices from among our community with the goal to better understand the unique and shared student needs across our district and to ensure those needs are being addressed in both policy and in the way we do our work every day.

The first task of the Equity Advisory Group will be to provide input to our school board about our district policies and how they are showing up in our day-to-day practices in our schools, offices, and other locations. We will consider the practices of other school districts, specifically policies and current educational practices that enhance or limit student success, academically, socially, and emotionally; consider current district policies in relation to the goals of the Strategic Plan; and make recommendations to align district practices with those goals to maximize a positive educational experience for all students.

Subsequent tasks will involve looking deeply into how the strategic plan is being enacted and how it is serving each and every student in the district.

The group will be composed of: eight parents, three teachers, two principals, three community partners and two subject matter experts.

We are looking for eight parents to join this advisory group. If you are a parent of a student in our district and you are passionate about meeting the needs of each and every student, we encourage you to apply to serve on the committee. Parents will be selected to represent a cross-section of schools, grade-levels, BSD programs, and geographic areas of our district. You do not need to have expertise in equity or district policy to apply as a parent representative.

To ensure the advisory committee has representation from parents of students of color, English language learners, and students with special needs, four of the eight parent positions will be selected from the following groups:

  • Special Needs PTA
  • Parent Alliance of Black Scholars (PABS) Representative (to be chosen by PABS)
  • Promotores (NISO) Representative (to be chosen by NISO)
  • Asian Pacific Islander Alliance (APG) Representative (to be chosen by APG)

Members of the advisory group must commit to attending all sessions held between now and February. Currently, group meetings are scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the following days: October 17, October 25, November 5, November 13, December 11, December 17, January 9, February 4, and February 27. The advisory group will present its initial recommendations to the board at the January 15 and February 12 board meetings. Meetings for the spring will be scheduled with input from the committee later in the school year. Members are expected to attend all meetings.

If you’re interested in helping us support success for all of our students, please apply for consideration here no later than October 10. We will notify parents who have been selected to serve within two days of the application deadline. Thank you to all for considering joining our advisory group to serve our students. If you have any questions, please email [email protected].
