Congratulations to the Tillicum Middle Concert Choir! The combined 7th and 8th grade group, lead by director Julia Meyering, took first place at both the New York Heritage Festival on March 15 and at the Best in the Northwest Choral Festival in Portland, Oregon on May 10.

They took 1st place in their division and received a superior rating at the New York Heritage Festival, held at the historic Riverside Church. Soprano soloist, Sophie England (8th grade), and pianist for the choir, James Monson (12th grade at Newport), both received outstanding soloist awards. The choir also took home an adjudicator award for receiving a 95 point average—and took 1st place overall choirs.

The Best in the Northwest Festival, held at the University of Portland, invites the top middle school choirs in the region. There is one traveling trophy that has been in circulation since 1978. This is the second year in a row Tillicum Concert Choir has housed the trophy.
