Students and staff at Eastgate Elementary celebrated their 30th Young Authors Day. Young Authors Day was started by Eastgate teacher, Carol Langhurst, to encourage and celebrate literacy, creative writing and reading in students. With the support of the teachers, staff and volunteers it has continued to be a highlight of the year for the Eastgate community.

Every student at Eastgate wrote and illustrated their own book in the spring. On Young Authors Day, the students listened to an interactive presentation by this year’s Featured Author, Sundee Frazier. After a celebratory BBQ lunch open to all the families, the students met in small groups of multi-aged students to share their stories. 5th graders presented some of the student stories in a dramatic reenactment to show the different ways writing is used.

The Bellevue School District acknowledges that we learn, work, live and gather on the Indigenous Land of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Duwamish and Snoqualmie Tribes. We thank these caretakers of this land, who have lived and continue to live here, since time immemorial.
