Interlake Speech and Debate Team 2019

Congratulations to the Interlake High School 2019 National Speech and Debate Team! The team qualified 14 students and they traveled to the National Tournament June 16 – June 22, in Dallas, Texas. Qualifying to the National Tournament is an honor and means the student placed in the top two at the Puget Sound District Qualifying Tournament held the first weekend in March. The students that qualified from Interlake are Emily Du, Karina Lu, Ishan Sinha, Aarti Kumar, Effie Zheng, Evan Kim, Evan Mallick, Sam Dumesh, Harvin Park, Manasa Lingireddy, Priyanka Mukhara, Shreeya Lingam, Prabhat Aluri and Mishti Dhawan.

The students discussed a range of topics at the National Tournament such as restrictions on legal immigration, climate change, government control of social media during a national emergency, education, youth issues, economics, healthcare and more. Winners from the National Tournament were Evan Mallick, octo finalist in Humorous Interpretation, semi finalist in Storytelling, Effie Zheng, quarter finalist in International Extemporaneous Speaking and Sam Dumesh, Semi Finalist in Congressional Debate.
