Greetings Bellevue Students, Parents, Families, Community Members, and Staff:
Welcome to a new school year! We are excited and honored to serve our diverse group of students—from an entry class of preschoolers who will graduate in 2034 to our seasoned seniors who will be graduating as the Class of 2020.
As we move forward, it is important to be mindful of our shared values: Service, Integrity, Excellence, Compassion, Respect, and Collaboration. These values help clarify our commitment to fulfill the district’s vision and mission. Our values provide direction and guide our daily interactions with our students, the community, and each other. Our values matter.
I know that our students—no matter what year they graduate—will continue to embrace our value of Excellence. They will exceed state and national averages in state testing, AP courses and SAT exams. They will excel in a wide range of relevant skills and opportunities including computational thinking and innovation, local and global problem-solving, and speech and debate. They will shine in performing arts, athletics, and innovative endeavors such as the award-winning Transition Program. I also know that our educators, staff, and community partners will continue to work hard to ensure that all of our students are prepared to succeed on campus and in our changing world.
Our amazing educators reflect our values of Service, Respect, and Collaboration. As a result, Bellevue students will enjoy even more equitable and inclusive opportunities for success this school year. Quality education requires quality investment, so we will provide even more support so our educators will have what it takes to bring the Bellevue vision to life: to affirm and inspire each and every student to learn and thrive as creators of their future world.
I am also very impressed with the way our community models our value of Compassion. Our community members and partners provide additional resources to increase learning time for our students through a seventh period, rebuild our campuses, and furnish students with the basics of backpacks and school supplies. Community members also mentor our students in topics ranging from civic leadership and computer science to real-life problem solving.
As I enter my third year as your superintendent, I am even more excited about the new opportunities we have to work together to serve our students. I invite our staff, families, and community members to join me in our value of Integrity by offering this pledge to our students:
Students, no matter where you come from and no matter who you are, if you are part of the Bellevue School District, we will do whatever we can to affirm you, inspire you, and support your learning so you can thrive as a creator of your future world.
Let’s make 2019 the best school year ever by ensuring the success of each and every student!
