Dear families, staff, and community,
We are pleased to let you know the Bellevue School District and the Bellevue Education Association, the educators’ union, have approved a plan to bring our youngest learners back to buildings, while also balancing the need to ensure and respect the health and safety of our educators and staff.
We look forward to seeing our second graders back in person tomorrow, and all remote learning – synchronous – will continue tomorrow for all our other grades.
Additional details of our agreement, which was approved by BEA members late Monday night:
Second graders: Our second graders will continue to meet in person Tuesday and Thursday this week, with Wednesday as a remote learning day. A reminder that this Friday is a no-school day.
First graders: We look forward to welcoming our first graders February 8 and 9, with the rest of that week remote.
Kindergarteners: Our Kindergartners will start in person learning February 11 and 12.
Current in-person learners: Will return to our buildings Tuesday and continue on their normal schedules.
Our careful, stepwise approach to returning students to buildings will be guided by adherence to strict risk mitigation protocols.
In addition, we have formed a planning team to help our staff access the COVID-19 vaccine. We are currently pursuing partnerships with local agencies, pharmacies, and Public Health to hold vaccine clinics in our district for all our staff, who will be able to sign up to be vaccinated. We are also actively advocating with state and regional agencies to prioritize educators and school district staff in Washington’s vaccination distribution framework.
We are pleased to have reached this agreement and now it is time to move forward, united. We look forward to seeing students and staff back for learning tomorrow.
