Year after year, BSD students show their strengths, abilities, accomplishments, and the many other ways they are becoming creators of their future world. Read on for a few highlights from the first month of the 2022-23 school year.

Evergreen Transition Program Students Kick Off Job Training at ESC West

The Everbean Coffee Shop recently opened for business for the 2022-23 school year. Everbean is staffed by young adults in the Evergreen Transition Program, our community-based job training program for individuals with disabilities ages 18-21. The program provides experiential learning opportunities for young adults to foster independence in the areas of employment, post-secondary education/training and life skills.

Evergreen Transition Program young adults, Beyza and Eli, serve up delicious vanilla chai and pumpkin lattes. They also have plenty of snacks! Pick up a coffee or a snack when you’re at the BSD district office (ESC East). Everbean is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Bellevue Football Promotes Being Winners On and Off the Field

The Bellevue High School Wolverines added to their collection of 3A state football championships back in December 2021 and are off to a strong start this season. In addition to striving for success on the field, Bellevue football promotes being winners off the field as well. Last month, the varsity squad made over 600 sandwiches that were delivered to Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission. BSD is proud of these student athletes and their commitment to giving back to the community.

International School Senior Shares Perspective on Global Competency

Kicking off our We Are Bellevue video series for the 2022-23 school year, International School senior, McKenzie Toomey, reflects on global competency and what it means to be a creator of her future world. McKenzie spoke at the first School Board meeting of the school year about the strong sense of community and unique opportunities for student connections across grades at the International School.

International School Senior Earns AP Computer Science Perfect Score

Congratulations to International School senior, Arsh Bansal, who earned a perfect score on the college-level AP® Computer Science Principles Exam in May 2022.

Advanced Placement® Exams are scored on a scale of one to five. Arsh not only received the top score of five, but was also one of only 196 students in the world to earn every point possible on the AP Computer Science Principles Exam, receiving the maximum score on each portion of the exam.

“AP courses and exams are college-level, requiring great focus and persistence among participating students,” said Trevor Packer, head of the Advanced Placement Program. “We applaud the educators who encourage students to challenge themselves, who motivate and encourage diverse students to achieve their academic potential.”

BSD Students Named 2023 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists

BSD is proud to announce the semifinalists in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program. Congratulations to all of the BSD students who worked hard to earn this recognition!

High school juniors entered the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. The number of Semifinalists in a state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the national total of graduating seniors. The Bellevue School District acknowledges that we learn, work, live and gather on the Indigenous Land of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Duwamish and Snoqualmie Tribes. We thank these caretakers of this land, who have lived and continue to live here, since time immemorial.
