The Reimagining Middle School Steering (RMS) committee is in the “prototyping” stage of the design process. In collaboration with our Parent Teacher Students Associations (PTSAs) and the Bellevue Education Association (BEA), the RMS committee recently visited our five comprehensive middle schools to gather feedback from staff, students and families on the prototypes.

In addition, the committee has examined other innovative middle schools across the country and learned how they offer a developmentally responsive, student-centered education.

What is a Prototype?

Prototypes are visual representations of ideas; they are props that help tell a story. Our prototypes are a way of making ideas tangible and testing them out. This allows us to gather feedback and improve ideas.

The RMS prototypes were “scrappy” at this stage! This was intentional so that they could be codesigned using multiples perspectives from our BSD community. This is a dynamic, ongoing process. The RMS Committee will revise the protypes using feedback and will offer another opportunity for feedback and input before final recommendations are crafted. Final recommendations will be submitted to the BSD Executive Team in June 2023.
