The Bellevue School District Multilingual Learners (MLL) department is delighted to offer two new programs for the 2024-2025 school year. We welcome a Korean Bilingual Program at Newport Heights Elementary School and a Hindi Bilingual Program at Ardmore Elementary School. Both programs will be accepting applications for incoming kindergarten students for the fall of the 2024-2025 school year beginning on Monday, December 11, 2023, and continuing until Friday, January 19, 2024. These programs are open to both in-district and out-of-district students entering kindergarten and require no prior language experience.

Arabic Bilingual Program Enrolling for Year Two

The district’s new bilingual programs follow the launch of the Arabic Language Program which began at Ardmore Elementary School in the fall of 2023. The Arabic language elementary program currently serves students in kindergarten through second grade. For the 2024-2025 school year, the program will expand to serve third grade students. In addition to the Bellevue School District elementary curriculum, students in the Arabic Language Program at Ardmore engage in Arabic literacy and language instruction. This program marks the first public Arabic language program in the state and provides an opportunity for all interested students to take part in an Arabic language program that is widely available, free and accessible. The program continues to accept new students.

Multilingual Opportunities

The Bellevue School District strives to enhance the learning experience of students through an asset-based approach, to sustain students’ identities and language while fostering academic success. We aim to create multilingual environments that provide students with opportunities to preserve their native languages and/or acquire additional language skills. Our focus is to promote linguistic fluency, cultural competency, intercultural dialogue and ensure that students are equipped with the skills and understanding necessary to be conscientious global citizens.

Each of the district’s language offerings have been developed in close partnership with Bellevue School District families and community members. In order to realize our vision, we have highly valued the leadership and engagement of our learning community and thank them for their time and dedication throughout this codesign process.
