Since the last update in September, the BSD website project team — led by the Communications Department — has collaborated with internal staff, community members, and the website vendor, Finalsite, to complete the design portion of the Design and Development project phase. The new design showcases the unique features and resources offered by BSD schools and programs, with an emphasis on information and language and visual accessibility for all audiences — in a mobile-first design that creates a positive user experience regardless of the device used to access the websites. District and school leaders have reviewed and approved designs, which will be shared with the community in the new year.

Website development is now in progress — specifically content migration — with the continued intention to build new district and school websites centered around user experience, equity, quality control, maintenance and security. Some of the ongoing development work on the project includes:

Website Audit and Content Migration

Prior to migrating (moving) web content from WordPress to Finalsite, all webpages must be reviewed by subject matter experts — such as department or school staff — to ensure that it is current, relevant to school and district audiences, and easy to understand. Website audits also help determine whether old content should be revised or removed and/or if additional content should be developed for the new websites. The audited content is then placed in new webpages on the Finalsite platform.

Training

In October, BSD Communications staff began asynchronous and synchronous training offered by Finalsite to learn and understand how to implement the capabilities of the new web platform. This also includes consultation with Finalsite to optimize district and school websites for users. By serving as early adopters of the platform, the Communications team will be able to lead the training process for school and district staff in spring 2024, so they may manage their websites and webpages long term.

Communications staff are also working in partnership with a committee of internal staff to develop processes, procedures and best practices for the development of web content, quality assurance, long-term training materials and more. These resources and agreed-upon practices will help create consistency in web content as well as the look and feel of websites across the district.

Learn More

The Design and Development phase will continue through spring 2024, when all school and district websites will launch. Previous updates and more information about this project can be found on the New BSD Websites webpage. Project information and future opportunities for engagement will continue to be shared with the BSD community via email, text message and on social media.
