Hello Families,

Last weekend was the wedding of my son and I didn’t do your normal newsletter. So here it is.

What an amazing week we had with the PTSA and Parents organizing to show their appreciation of our amazing Ardmore staff. Everyone felt very special and valued and it lifts the spirits of the team.

Thank you for everything you do for teachers and staff – they work hard for you and your children and it is great to see them being recognized.

We have teacher teams for the different PBIS Tiers of behavior support. The PBIS Tier 1 team meets every month and ensures we are meeting the guidelines for schools. The Tier 2 and Tier 3 teams have done a huge lift this year to get structures in place. We had a consultant in the school in February to evaluate how we are doing against the expectations (Tiered Fidelity Inventory) and I am really pleased with the way we have expanded our PBIS program. We will continue to add structures and improve next year.

We are holding steady with very few reports of bullying being HIB. There are still about 1 report coming in each week and almost all are not rising to HIB. Most of our incidents are coming from the bus but there are some on the playground. When the school knows about HIB we can address it – so please keep reporting incidents.

The teachers are working hard to provide coherent and standards-based instruction to the whole class and then differentiate into small groups during the workshops. Teachers are using daily learning targets to focus the learning on standards. Many teachers are using daily exit tickets in math to monitor student learning and form groups for the next day. It is great to be in classrooms and see students and teachers so engaged in the work.

Your children have been working so hard. It is fabulous to go into classrooms and see the work they are engaged in. The state Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) starts this week for 3rd through 5th grade students. Please make sure your children are well rested and talk about positive and happy things with them rather than the test itself. Thinking about happy events keeps stress down and helps performance. Thank you to parents who come to our Attendance Workshops when you are invited. We know that attendance in the elementary years is mainly about adults and you are doing an amazing job. We have increased our daily attendance by 2% as a school and our chronically absent students are coming to school more often. Thank you for your support. We can’t teach students when they are not at school so great attendance is a win-win for everyone.

Car Drop Off and Pick Up

This seems to continue to be working well in the designated drive through area – nice work everyone! There are still some parents driving into the bus and teacher parking area. Please DO NOT do this – there is no supervision and there are no sidewalks for students to be safe. Please take the extra minute to use the parent drive through entrance.

Thank you from the 5th Grade Girls!

The food drive was super successful. We got lots of donations for the homeless and it was affirming for the girls. They learned so much. They are now thinking of a grand finale project on Homelessness to show what they have learned. Thank you to you all.
