|Hello wonderful Ardmore Families,
We had a great week of celebration and learning this week. We started the week with a recognition of the Lunar New Year on February 1, 2022. While in the USA, the new year is celebrated on January 1st, some countries around the world use the Lunar calendar to begin a new year. The Lunar New Year is based on the phases of the moon and the new year date changes yearly. This year it fell on February 1. Our amazing assistant principal, Mrs. Monica Lo had the opportunity to celebrate this day with her family, happy new year to her and many of our families and staff that celebrate this Lunar New Year.
Further, we kicked off the week in recognition of African-American/Black History month. This month brings more than celebration of historic African-American figures that impacted change in the USA. This month is an opportunity to continue learning and elevating the voices of our students. To foster a community where everybody belongs and feels included at school, it is important that we continue to recognize the diversity of our students. Together we learn every day how we identify as individuals and what makes us who we are today. I’m grateful to be part of a community that values the same.
If you are interested in learning more along your students, here are a couple resources you can go to:

|COVID rapid tests at home|
|At-Home (Rapid Antigen) tests:
Public Health has been working to procure rapid at-home tests through as many avenues as possible. This week the federal government and Washington State each released programs where households can order free COVID-19 at-home test kits.
Please have families administering over-the counter/rapid antigen tests at home read the instructions to double check the ages for which the tests can be used. Different testing kits have different age requirements, and some, we have learned, are not approved for children. Please use tests as directed per manufacturer’s instructions.
* What to Do If USPS Won’t Let You Order Free COVID-19 Tests
If you see the message: “At-home COVID-19 tests have already been ordered for this address.”

As you may know, Ardmore has a PTSA (Parent, Teacher, Student Association) that provides educational funding and family events for our school. Some examples are funds for classroom supplies, library books, field trips, our annual Science Fair and Family Fun nights, and community service such as our Week of Giving food drive.
You may not know that the PTSA is a 501c3 non-profit and is required by Washington state law to fill certain roles in order to keep running each year.
It’s now the time of year when the PTSA must find parent volunteers for these roles:
– Nominating Committee: 3 volunteers who interview and recommend next year’s PTSA officers
– PTSA officers for the 2022-23 school year: President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary
The PTSA is also looking for parents to help with:
– Budget for 2022-23 (guided by current Treasurer)
– Yearbook editor
– Communications and marketing
– Event planning
Will you consider helping? For more information, please email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. Our class and our school is grateful for your support!
