Monday, February 20, 2023, is President’s Day and all schools and district offices will be closed. School will remain closed for the week of February 20-24 for Mid-Winter Break.

Americans began celebrating George Washington’s Birthday long before Congress declared it a federal holiday. It was not until 1879 that President Rutherford B. Hayes designated Washington’s birthday as a legal holiday to be observed.

Today, while some states still have individual holidays honoring the birthdays of Washington, Abraham Lincoln and other past presidents, Presidents’ Day is popularly viewed as a day to celebrate all U.S. presidents, past and present.

There is a report of cold weather expected during the week. Anyone needing cold weather shelter can reach out to the following resources made available by the King County Regional Housing Authority KCRHA.
