A Message from Coach Vance:

I want to start off by thanking AD Lauren McDaniel, the administration committee, our family of parents, my fellow coaches and most importantly, our student-athletes for believing in me and giving me this opportunity to return back to Bellevue, this time to lead the school as the new volleyball director and varsity head coach.  Your shower of support and encouragement from last year through this entire off-season and hiring process is truly a blessing and very much appreciated!

I am returning to BHS after serving for one year as varsity assistant coach under Garry Currier.  As a team, we were able to lead our lady Wolverines last year to a third place finish in the King Co. conference and an unforgettable win over powerhouse and previously unbeaten champs, Mercer Island.

My coaching experience originates from a heavy influence in beach volleyball.  I was first introduced to the sport in 2009, upon moving to Laguna Beach, CA.  It was there on Main Beach Laguna that I played and trained five days a week, all year round, for two whole years.  After growing up my entire life playing football and basketball, it was then that I found that passion and love for volleyball.  Through hard work and dedication, I played in several local CBVA tournaments throughout 2009-2010, coming in 3rd twice and runner-up once, the latest being the Long Beach CBVA tournament back in 2014 with my doubles partner, Chris Kahwaty.  Upon moving to Bellevue in 2010, my playing days were limited due to seasonal changes and availability of play here in the PNW.  It wasn’t until 2013 that I experienced my first grass game and not too long after that, my first opportunity to coach indoor volleyball in 2014.  My coaching career started with WVBA in 2014 under the guidance of Sarah Chase, University of Hawaii standout MB, and Dave Weitl, founder of Washington Volleyball Academy.  I served as assistant coach at WVBA for both the 17 and 16-1 Mizuno teams and the 16-2 Molten team, taking 2nd respectively this year with 17 Mizuno in the (WA) Puget Sound region under master guru and head coach, Marcelo Melado de Mesquita, a highly respected and decorated Brazilian coach.  The latter part of this year’s 2016 club season, I was reassigned to take over co-head coaching duties with head coach of Cedar Park Christian Academy, Marni Dreschel, who led her high school program to consecutive state tournament appearances and last year’s state runner-up.

I come with a little over 6 years of competitive beach volleyball experience, teaching and training of the game, and two years coaching indoor junior youth volleyball with no prior High School or Collegiate playing experience.

In close, I am grateful for this opportunity to represent Bellevue High School and I look forward to leading this program in the gym, on and off the court for years to come.  I encourage everyone new and experience in volleyball to come out, play at our open gyms and enjoy a taste of the sport the same way I did when I first started to learn and play competitively.  My last words to Lauren McDaniel at seasons end last year was, “you know where my heart is and you know where I want to be!”  I’m back and where I belong, Go Blue!!
