Recently, a group of dedicated students had the honor of being invited to WE Day Seattle. WE Day is an event to celebrate student’s efforts in service to their community and the world. Our WE club got to hear from speakers like Esera Tuaolo and Ann Curry and see performers like Rachael Platten. Bella Burckhardt, a senior and founder of Big Picture’s WE club, even got to speak at WE Day about the work our WE club has done. Our WE club has focused on local action this year executing several events to benefit our school and local community.

Our WE club ran a food drive on Halloween collecting over 400 pounds of food, they organized anonymous teacher appreciation notes for teacher appreciation week and largest of all they collected items from BP advisories to create care packages for people experiencing homelessness. The drive yielded over 3,000 donations and is what gave Bella the opportunity to speak at WE day. Hopefully Big Picture’s WE club will earn their spot at WE day next year as well!

The Bellevue School District acknowledges that we learn, work, live and gather on the Indigenous Land of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Duwamish and Snoqualmie Tribes. We thank these caretakers of this land, who have lived and continue to live here, since time immemorial.
