Cherry Crest Families,

While the beautiful weather outside indicates that summer is almost, I can hardly believe that school is almost out.  I want to share my thanks and appreciation each and every family at Cherry Crest. It is a privilege and honor to lead our teachers and staff in serving and educating your children.  Thank you for entrusting us with that huge responsibility.

As summer dawns, I am looking forward to some downtime and vacation with my wife and kids. (The travel trailer is almost packed for a July road trip down to California along Highway 101).   As excited as I am for vacation, I also have an eye toward August and the upcoming school year.  I eagerly anticipate meeting new students and families and building upon relationships from this year.  So, wherever you go and whatever you may do this summer, I wish you and your family the best of times and wonderful memories to last a lifetime.

Have a great summer!

Dusty Steere

Summer Slide? NO way! Although school is out for summer, students can and should continue reading and learning. Here are ideas to keep your student consistent on their basic skills.

Read- daily! Via there are many reading programs, clubs and support!

King County Library System. Search the library catalog, put holds on books, find homework help for students, parents, and teachers, and look up open hours and…

Math: Dreambox is still available over the summer. Students can easily practice independently on this site/any other you like or with a workbook. Try looking on amazon, at half-priced books or Lakeshore learning.

Writing: Keep a journal, make posters for family events, write thank you cards or reader’s theater for the family to ‘put on’ around the dinner table.

Reading/writing resources:

Want more?  Check out this list of reading resources that families and students can access to help keep reading skills sharp and avoid the summer slide. Please know the BEST thing your child can do is READ, READ,READ!!

Schools Almost Out, Are You In? I encourage you to support Bellevue Schools Foundation’s end of school year campaign. BSF’s programs benefit our children and help make all of Bellevue’s public schools among the best in the nation. Only 11% of Cherry Crest families contribute to the Foundation. We must increase this rate if our schools are to remain great. If you are not among the 11% please consider making a donation by June 22. Every gift counts. All gifts, of any size, will be matched by generous BSD parents Paul and Elaina Herber (up to $25,000). Click Here to learn more.

Cherry Crest Elementary prepares all students to become life-long learners through inquiry, collaboration, and discovery.  Each student will feel a sense of belonging in our Comm(UNITY) while learning social-emotional and academic skills to be successful in an ever-changing and diverse society.
