In the spring of 2019, six Cherry Crest students in Ms. Atia’s 5th grade classroom decided to “make recess better” and launched a plan to raise funds for the school.  Selling donuts door to door, the girls donated nearly $500 to the elementary school.  After surveying their classmates, the consensus improvement was to add Gaga Ball pits for kids to use during recess.

Gaga Ball is a fast paced, high energy sport played in an octagonal pit. The game combines dodging, striking, running, and jumping, with the objective of being the last person standing. Players hit the ball at each other with their hands, and are eliminated if the ball strikes them on or below the knee.

In addition to the fundraising from students, Dunn Lumber donated additional materials and a community volunteer from Jubilee Reach built the structures this summer.  This fall, after the installation of our turf field, we set up the gaga ball pits and students started using them last week.  Each recess scores of students enjoy this fun, active and accessible activity!  Thank you Cherry Crest alumni and donors!
