Thank you for making our 2020 PTSA auction a HUGE success! A tremendous thank you to EVERYONE involved.  In spite of these challenging times, the transition to an online format was accomplished with great grace, agility and success.

A very big THANK YOU to all of our Auction Sponsors.  In particular, our Platinum Sponsor, Julia and Mark Krill of Windermere Real Estate. They have been Auction Sponsors since 2008 and are former Cherry Crest parents. Thank you, Krill family for your continued support of Cherry Crest and everything you do in our community.

Our combined efforts support excellence in education for each and every student and help make Cherry Crest a wonderful school for all!

If you can read this, thank a teacher! May 4 – 8 Is National Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week.  Here are some remote ways you can show your gratitude for the work of our amazing Cherry Crest staff.

Wear Red: Students can show their #ChargerPride by wearing red to any Teams meetings the week of May 4-8. Wear red t-shirts, hats, headbands, anything you’ve got!

Write a Thank You: Students and parents are encouraged to contribute notes of gratitude though SignUp Genius. Check your email for a “Staff Appreciation Week” message (contact [email protected] if you didn’t receive one.) Write about a specific teacher/staff member or write a general note of thanks! We’ll compile the messages and distribute to teachers and staff during their Friday Staff lunch.

Create a Video Message: Students and parents can create short videos thanking teachers or sharing why Cherry Crest is an awesome place to learn. Go to Flipgrid. Select “Login in with Microsoft” and have your student enter their BSD e-mail and password. The PTSA will review and compile your videos to share with Cherry Crest teachers and staff.

Contribute a Prize: Parents can e-mail $5 or $10 e-gift cards to be used as prizes in a daily online game show led by Principal Steere completing challenges, earning point, winning prizes and feeling the love from our Comm(Unity)! E-mail contributions to [email protected].

On Friday, May 8 the PTSA will sponsor a special lunch for teachers via DoorDash while they meet in Microsoft Teams for the Grand Prize Winner reveal.

Thank you in advance for your participation. Together we strengthen our community!

Remote Learning Guidelines.  Please take a moment to read through our remote learning parent handbook. They provide information about our remote learning practices and guidelines for families and students. Your support, trust, and patience during this unprecedented time has been incredible and we appreciate continued support as we all work to meet the needs of our students at Cherry Crest.

Thanks for reviewing these important guidelines!

Charger Challenge. Beginning April 20th, we started a fun non-academic challenge for Chargers to remain connected to their peers, community, and staff at Cherry Crest. This is an optional challenge encouraging students to find joy doing something fun related to our weekly themes. This week our theme is all about movement! Next week, students can participate in our Boredom Buster challenge!

Information about our challenge can be viewed HERE.

K – 4 Parent Input requested for Class Placement.  In the midst of school closure, Cherry Crest teachers and staff are making plans and beginning the  important task of creating classroom assignments for the 2020-21 school year.  Creating balanced classrooms where children will be successful is a complex task and we need parent cooperation to make it work.  Please take a few minutes to share your feedback by completing the 2020-21 Class Placement Input Form. Thank you for completing this online survey for your returning Kindergarten – 4th grade child by Wednesday May 13th.

Online Family Forum with PTSA Presidents. Your PTSA presidents are here to help.  We want to reach out to our community to hear what concerns and challenges you are facing. From concerns with learning, connecting with others to tips and ideas for others to make online learning more fun and engaging.  Please share your ideas and concerns. We will address them and advocate for you the best we can!  Please leave your email in the form if you’d like us to contact you, or leave an anonymous comment/question.  Submit your questions for the PTSA and collaborate with our community on how to support our students during the current school closure.

Your voice counts: Complete Survey for PTSA 2020-2021 Spending Priorities.  We need your help to plan our fundraising goals and decide how best to allocate PTSA funds in the coming, very different, 2020-21 school year.

Please answer the survey questions with two specific scenarios in mind:

  • Our PTSA will likely raise less money next school year than in the past
  • We may be unable to have activities (fundraising and other events) where large groups of people gather.

Thank you very much for your participation in building our comm(UNITY).

Our Virtue of the Month for May is ‘Perseverance.’ Perseverance is being purposeful and steadfast.  It is sticking with something, staying committed, no matter how long it takes, or what obstacles appear to stop you.  When we persevere, people can depend on us to finish what we start.  When we persevere through difficult work or tasks, we grow and learn and develop our best selves.  You practice perseverance by committing to someone or something.  When you commit to a task, pace yourself, and persist, you are demonstrating perseverance.  Great athletes persevere through exhaustion and injury, and great scholars persevere through frustration and confusion.  You are practicing perseverance when you set goals and keep working to achieve them.  You take one step at a time and remain steady.  You work through feeling discouraged and keep striving to reach your goal.

Cherry Crest Elementary prepares all students to become life-long learners through inquiry, collaboration, and discovery.  Each student will feel a sense of belonging in our Comm(UNITY) while learning social-emotional and academic skills to be successful in an ever-changing and diverse society.

The Bellevue School District acknowledges that we learn, work, live and gather on the Indigenous Land of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Duwamish and Snoqualmie Tribes. We thank these caretakers of this land, who have lived and continue to live here, since time immemorial.
