Students and Families,

We are thrilled to announce the launch of the 2020 Cherry Crest Readathon.  Check out this short video featuring principal Dusty Steere and Librarian Janna Lux as they describe logistics for picking up your free t-shirt and jump rope on Saturday November 21st.

Find below an additional Q&A related to this year’s Readathon

Q:  What is the Cherry Crest Read-a-thon?

A:  The Read-a-thon is a fun school-wide event that encourages students to use the reading skills they develop in the classroom to help raise funds for the PTSA. Students will set a reading goal, gather sponsors to pledge money, then read over the Thanksgiving break (November 25-29). Reading minutes and donations are due by Friday, December 4th. The students have an opportunity to win fun prizes by fundraising and reading (such as a read-in and party with our librarian, Ms. Lux, robotic and STEM toys, and books selected and signed by Ms. Lux)!

Q:  How will the Read-a-thon be kicked off?

A:  We will have an all-school Pajama Day to kick off the Read-a-thon! So, on Wednesday November 25th, the students can wear pajamas to attend school. Also, each Cherry Crest student will receive a PTSA-sponsored Read-a-thon t-shirt!

Please pick up your student’s t-shirt during the t-shirt distribution at the Cherry Crest covered area on Saturday November 21st (10am – 12pm for grades K, 1, 2; 12pm – 2pm for grades 3, 4, 5).

Q:  How will the funds raised from the Read-a-thon be used?

A:  100% of the proceeds raised from the Read-a-thon go towards the students at Cherry Crest – supporting important PTSA-sponsored programs like Curriculum Enhancement and General School Assistants (extra support in the classroom!!) Since September, GSAs have been joining in on Teams lessons, running many of the small-group learning sessions, and helping our teachers with a variety of classroom content management, grading and other administrative tasks to help our online classes run smoothly. GSAs are a crucial element in making Cherry Crest not only an exceptional learning environment, but an exceptional community as well. These are just a few ways that the Cherry Crest PTSA helps to make Cherry Crest such a great school for our kids, and different from other schools in our district. So, every dollar raised benefits our children!
