February 10, 2021

Dear Cherry Crest Families,

In advance of a possible snow storm as well as the upcoming mid-winter break, I’m posting a few timely updates on our Cherry Crest website.

Topics include:

  • Snow Day Instruction
  • Principal Chat on Friday
  • Mid Winter Break & Travel Guidelines
  • K/1 expansion to in person learning
  • Parent survey for upcoming 3rd – 5th expansion to in person learning
  • Picture Day Opportunities on 2/27 & 3/3

Snow Day? Perhaps, but learning will continue.  With snow in the forecast for Thursday and Friday, please look out for phone, email and text messages from the district on impacts to in-person learning.  The Significant snowfall will likely result in in-person learning services transitioning to virtual learning.  Remote learning will continue regardless of snowfall.

Principal Chat on Friday 2/12 @ 8:30 am.  Cherry Crest families are invited to attend monthly virtual meetings hosted by Principal Dusty Steere and PTSA president Britt Heath.  All chats will be hosted online via Microsoft Teams and include information from the principal as well as ample time for questions and comments. Use this form to submit a question or topic for the next Principal Chat.
Chats are scheduled on the following Fridays from 8:30 – 9:30 am:  Feb 12, March 19, Apr 26, May 28   Join Microsoft Teams Meeting on Friday at 8:30 am.

Next week is the Midwinter vacation break and there will be no in person or virtual learning February 15 – 19.  School resumes on Monday February 22nd with all learning K-12 taking place remotely.

Travelling over mid winter break? Understand the Quarantine Rules. Anyone coming into Washington state from out of the state needs to quarantine for 14 days (Travel Advisory). As a district, Cherry Crest is aligning with these travel restrictions for staff and students. Review the BSD 14-day travel quarantine guidance on our district website:  https://bsd405.org/back-to-buildings-plan/faq/#quarantine

In Person Learning Updates.  The week after mid-winter break (Feb 22-26) is remote learning for all students.  During this week, the Cherry Crest Building Safety and Health Conditions Review Team will review relevant health and safety data and make a determination if in person learning for kindergarten and/or first grade students will begin March 1st.  K/1 families will receive direct communication from the school no later than 2/25 with information about the return to school for K/1 students.  2nd grade students will resume their in person learning March 1st on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and will move to four days/week (M,T,Th,F) on March 15.

In Person Learning Survey for 3rd – 5th families.  Please look for an email from BSD requesting 3rd – 5th grade families to update your preferences for in-person or virtual instruction for your child.  Similar to planning for K-2 in-person back in January, we are seeking input from families to help schools plan for an eventual return to in-person learning for grade 3-5 students who choose that option.  I truly appreciate Cherry Crest families responding to this survey in a prompt manner. If you have any questions, feel free to direct them to principal Dusty Steere [email protected].

Cherry Crest Picture Day.  PTSA volunteers have coordinated with LifeTouch Photography to provide an in-person School Photo opportunity this year on Saturday 2/27 or Wednesday 3/3.  Please read below for instructions on signing up for a picture time slot, registering for picture day with Lifetouch and COVID safety protocols.

Signing Up: To select a time slot, please click here: Please select 1 day/time that works best for you and your student.  Pictures will take place outside under the cover of the basketball court.  Access inside the school will not be permitted.

Register: Picture day will be paperless! Go to mylifetouch.com using your picture day ID: EVTZQF3Z3.  When you arrive to your scheduled time for Picture Day, you’ll just tell the photographer the students name and grade.  Please register by February 26th, 2021.

COVID Protocol: Picture day will be outside rain or shine. Please note, only one parent can attend with children during the designated timeslot. We will be following strict COVID safety protocols.  All people attending must wear a mask the entire time, except during the actual photo, while also maintaining 6 feet apart.  Please review the entrance/exit map to limit potential exposure.  Families will enter from the West side of the school and exit on the East side of the school. If you are feeling any symptoms (fever, cough, body chills, etc) or traveled outside the State of Washington, please do not attend.  There will be no props or chairs, photos will be taken in a standing pose from the shoulder up. Makeup day is April 7th.
