Cherry Crest Comm(Unity),

The 2021-22 school year has brought many changes to our school, not the least of which is an (almost) entirely new cadre of support staff in the main office.  Find below photos and brief biographies of the amazing individuals you and your students may encounter in the main office at Cherry Crest.  Should you find yourself on campus, please don’t hesitate to stop by, say hello and introduce yourself.  We love making connections!

Connie Kramer – Office Manager

Hello Cherry Crest community. I am so happy to be joining Cherry Crest as your Office Manager. I have been with BSD for six years at Bennett Elementary. I am honored to be able to work with  such amazing staff who work well together, collaborate with one another and work tirelessly for our students.
My husband and I have two Interlake graduates that enjoyed their elementary years at Cherry Crest.

I am thrilled to be back at Cherry Crest and to be a part of this wonderful community. You can contact me at kramerc@bsd405.org or 425-456-4900.  I look forward to meeting all of you.

Kathy Bessler – School Secretary

Hi Parents! I’m thrilled to be a part of the CCE and PTSA community! My job as the School Secretary is to keep track of students’ daily attendance; all the tardies, appointments, and absences. Please send these requests to: cherrycrestattendance@bsd405.org along with your student’s full name, teacher’s name, and reason, so I can record accordingly. Otherwise, you’ll get more emails…  Students call me Ms. Kathy, and I’m happiest when I can use my Mandarin language skill to help out in any situation. Here’s a photo of me with my favorite (four legged) child.

I can be reached at besslerk@bsd405.org for anything else…

Mykela Fantone – School Counselor

Hello Cherry Crest families!  While I’ve slowly been able to meet and introduce myself to some of you, I am so glad to be able to introduce myself to you all!  My name is Mykela Fantone (though the kids call me Ms. Mykela) and I am Cherry Crest’s new School Counselor and could not be more thrilled to be a part of this Comm(UNITY).  This is my 5th year as an Elementary School Counselor and I can easily say it is the best job in the world!  I am here as a resource for students, staff, and families.  During the school day, I can be found leading class lessons on various Social/Emotional topics, meeting with groups of students to mediate or practice friendship skills, working with teachers to help best support our students, and meeting individually with students about any and everything that may come up for them.  Any and all students at Cherry Crest can access me for support and I do not share what we talk about with anyone else, unless there is a safety concern or the student has given me permission to share it with others.  Families are welcome to reach out to me anytime regarding a concern about their student, to request resources on a particular topic, or to ask more about my role and what supports I can provide our students. While there is only one of me and over 550 Chargers, I strive to make connections with each student throughout the school year and hope to meet you sometime soon! Should you ever want to connect, the best way to contact me is by email: fantonem@bsd405.org, though you are more than welcome to give me a call as well: (425) 456-4906.

Cori Ponte – Nurse (Tuesdays)

My name is Cori Ponte – kids and staff call me “Nurse Cori”. This is my 12th year in the Bellevue

School District – my 1st year at Cherry Crest and my 7th year at Newport Heights. My background in nursing includes pediatrics and asthma/allergy/immunology. My role at CC is to keep your students safe and healthy. Just a few things school nurses do includes: vision and hearing screening, obtaining health history information, assessment of symptoms and injuries, first aid, immunization consultation, providing resources, and overall care of the whole student. Our other role pertains to “all things COVID”.

Personally, I’m the mom of two kids. My oldest is an accounting major in college (Go Baylor Bears!). My youngest attends the BSD Transition Program, which supports young adults with disabilities.

Thanks for welcoming me to the CC community!

Danielle Laskey – Nurse (Fridays)

Hi! I’m Danielle Laskey, Nurse Danielle to students.  I joined the BSD community last year at Puesta del Sol and this year at Cherry Crest. My background in nursing is in pediatric cardiac intensive care. It has been quite a transition to school nursing, but I love getting to see the children engaging with each other and hearing all the stories of pets, camping trips, and soccer games.

I work part-time so that I can enjoy several days a week with my two-year-old. We enjoy hiking, going on ‘coffee’ dates, jumping in puddles, and reading the same book on repeat.

Erin Stedman – Assistant Principal

My name is Erin Stedman (Mrs. Stedman to students) and I am honored to be the Assistant Principal here at Cherry Crest. This is my 6th year as the AP at Cherry Crest. Before this role, I was a classroom teacher at Bennett Elementary for 10 years serving students in Kindergarten and third grade. Personally, I am a wife to Tyson and a mom to two children, Brooklyn (7) and Zane (3). I love spending time with family and friends, and adore decorating for holidays throughout the year.

I serve students, families, and teachers in my role as Assistant Principal. For students, I am here to support overall processes, structures, and systems. I build support schedules and work with teachers to assist in problem solving and behavioral needs. I develop positive incentive systems to use with students building-wide or for individual need. For families, I work to support all aspects of family and student life. I am here to brainstorm effective solutions that support students at Cherry Crest. I also monitor attendance and track data, which could mean attendance conferences with families that are mandated by law. For teachers, I work to collaborate and partner with teachers in an evaluation role in order to meet student needs and support overall practice. I love everything about teaching and learning! Partnership is my goal in everything I do each day.

If you need me, never hesitate to contact me! I can be reached at stedmane@bsd405.org or 425-456-4908.

Dusty Steere – Principal

It has been my honor and privilege to serve as principal at Cherry Crest since 2014.  Previously, I have  worked in Bellevue Schools since 1999 – first as a middle & high school math teacher and then as a high school and middle school assistant principal.  I love working in the elementary school and getting to know students and families over multiple years.  Relationships are my #1 priority as I believe each and every human on the planet has an innate desire to be known and loved.  At school, I strive to know students by name and support them in achieving a sense of belonging in our Comm(Unity).  Outside of the school house, I am blessed with a family of three children who attend Bellevue Schools and a beautiful wife.  I enjoy playing music on my guitar and spending time in the sunshine and on the water.   If you want to connect, I can be reached at steered@bsd405.org or 425-456-4960.

The Bellevue School District acknowledges that we learn, work, live and gather on the Indigenous Land of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Duwamish and Snoqualmie Tribes. We thank these caretakers of this land, who have lived and continue to live here, since time immemorial.
