Dear Charger Families,

Our annual Walkathon event takes place on Friday May 5th from 2:30 – 4:30 pm and there is an exited buzz of anticipation in the air among students.  I hope you as families are making plans to join as well.

Regardless of whether your child is participating in Walkathon, please review the important details below so that each and every student has fun and is safely reunited with family.

  • Participating
    • All students must have a signed permission slip in order to participate in the Walkathon.  Click here to Submit one permission slip per student.  Permission due by end of day Wednesday 5/3.
    • All students should wear their Walkathon shirt to school on Friday along with appropriate walking shoes.
    • Teachers will distribute student badges to track laps just before walking begins Friday.
    • Sign up to volunteer for the day of the event.
  • End of Day Logistics:
    • Bellevue Boys and Girls Club Students:  Regardless of whether your child has permission to walk, any students K-5 attending Bellevue Boys and Girls Club will check in with their afterschool supervisors as they usually do.  BGCB staff will then work to release students with permissions in 1st – 5th grade out onto the track for Walkathon.  Kindergarten parents of BGCB students must check their child out BGCG front door.
    • Kindergarten students:  Kindergarten teachers will bring students out to the front of the school where they can get on the bus, go home in a car or meet up with a parent to take them to Walkathon.  Kindergarten parents participating in Walkathon should meet their child at the flagpole.
    • All other students in grades 1 – 5 who have Yes permissions for Walkathon will be escorted by staff to the gym to drop off their backpacks and then go out to the track to begin walking.
      • Once students are outside walking they are now part of the PTSA sponsored Walkathon and no longer under the supervision of Cherry Crest Staff.
    • Students who have No or missing permissions for Walkathon will go to the front of the school and get on the bus or parent pickup as usual.
  • Parking
    • Plan to park off campus and walk onto the school campus. Please respect our neighbors and park responsibly. Make sure school buses and emergency vehicles can access all roads. Keep clear of driveways, crosswalks and stop signs (5 feet from driveway, 15 feet from fire hydrant, 30 feet from stop sign).   Consider carpooling or connecting with a family that lives near Cherry Crest.
  • Enjoying
    • 2:30-4:30pm: Walk! Talk! Enjoy!
  • The entire school is invited to walk around the track together. This includes students, parents, family members, and staff. Volunteers assist and families can walk, talk, or just watch.
  • Look for our school mascot “Champ” who will be handing out Charger Champ cards to walkers. Students should fill out their name and teacher’s name on the cards and enter them in our raffle! Winners announced next week at lunch
  • Donate to Walkathon by Sunday, May 7th to earn prizes!
