Cherry Crest Chronicler

August 18, 2023

Dear Cherry Crest Families,

I am so excited and honored to be the new principal here at Cherry Crest Elementary. I have been part of the Comm(UNITY) now for seven years as assistant principal, and each year, I feel more and more connected to the incredible students, families, and our staff. If you didn’t see the prior communication, Dusty Steere, has now stepped into a new principal role at Tillicum Middle School. I have been asked to step in as interim principal for the 2023-2024 schoolyear with the hope of moving into the role more permanently.

Amy Chu (formerly Kwon) is our new assistant principal. I have had the pleasure of working alongside her now since early July. She’s a wonderful addition to our community! Amy comes with a depth of knowledge to support our students as she recently completed her administrative internship at Stevenson Elementary, while also maintaining a role as both LAP facilitator (reading support) and co-teacher, specifically supporting math instruction with third graders.

In the newsletter below, you will find important information about the start of a new school year. Please note that you can translate this newsletter by using the “Select a Language” tool in the upper left corner of the webpage.  The drop-down menu allows you to translate text on the Cherry Crest website as well as any other Bellevue School District website. I will post new information to this site all year long. Please check our site often. Cherry Crest Chroniclers will go out on the first Friday of each new month.

For families new to Cherry Crest, we are excited to welcome you to our school. We are also delighted to see so many returning students and families.  Amy and I are truly proud to serve this school community, and we look forward to building and deepening relationships with students and families in the 2023-24 school year through listening and learning alongside you.

Thank you for taking a few moments to read the newsletter below. Feel free to contact me (stedmane@bsd405.org) or our amazing office Manager Connie Kramer (kramerk@bsd405.org) with any questions you may have!

Sincerely,

Erin Stedman, Principal Cherry Crest Elementary School

Students will officially begin on Friday, September 8th for a full day at school in their new classroom. We can’t wait to see you, Kindergarteners! On this day, we will ask students to line up at the front entrance by their teacher’s name. Kindergarten teachers will greet students in the morning and walk students into class after waving goodbye to parents and guardians. Please feel free to say hello to your child’s teacher and take a first day of school photo before they head into the building. We thank you for trusting us with your child(ren)’s education!

Cherry Crest Elementary prepares all students to become life-long learners through inquiry, collaboration, and discovery.  Each student will feel a sense of belonging in our Comm(UNITY) while learning social-emotional and academic skills to be successful in an ever-changing and diverse society.
