Why Elementary School Counselors?


As an elementary School Counselor I work in the following ways:

  • Support and co-teach SEL classroom lessons, as needed
  • Run small groups for students around a variety of topics dependent on student need
  • Provide one-on-one counseling support for individual students on a short-term basis
  • Facilitate student transition from grade to grade and school to school
  • Welcome new students and families to the Cherry Crest Comm(UNITY)
  • Support students to develop skills and set goals for future success
  • Facilitate outside referrals for additional support, as needed
  • Mediate peer conflict and talk through positive problem solving steps
  • Serve as Cherry Crest’s Student Well-Being Lead
  • Am the 504 Case Manager for all Cherry Crest 504 Plans
  • Utilize data to inform my interventions and the Cherry Crest School Counseling Program
  • Am a member of various building-level and district-level teams to support student success
  • Participate in professional organizations and professional development at the school, district, and state levels
  • Collaborate with colleagues to better my practice and program for our students
