October 24th Chinook Family Newsletter notes

Announcement #1 – Anti-bullying

WE ARE SEEING AN INCREASE IN TROUBLING BEHAVIOR DESPITE 3 SEPARATE LESSONS THIS MONTH ON ANTI-BULLYING.  We need your help parents/family members because the result of many months out of school is demonstrating itself in  behaviors across the district.  We have never seen behaviors such as these at these levels, this early in the school year.

No vulgar talk(sexual/profanity-filled/harassing/cruel) should be occurring. No one should be touching anyone other than the upper outer arm lightly.  We are seeing too many students touch others on the neck and on the head which is not professional in any way or form.  The majority of incidents are around peer-to-peer negative interactions that are out of keeping with our school culture of respect, ownership, community, kindness and scholarship.

As a society, we have seen that there are huge consequences to college admissions, job prospects, sports membership, etc…when these behaviors continue.  Please reach out through safe school on the web or through email if you are experiencing any of the above.  The excuse (parent or child), this is how kids talk, behave, etc… is not an acceptable answer, we as a team at Chinook decide the culture, we don’t succumb to it.  We appreciate your help in having these discussions.  Most kids are doing the right thing but when we gather, the group needs to calibrate its behavior to belonging, inclusion and dignity and that can be hard for an adolescent but it is an important piece of growing up with healthy relationships and friendships.
