No School (Professional Development Day)
Student Needs Assessment
Hello Families of Chinook Students! The School Counselors are so excited to have begun working with your students! In order for us to create the most effective School Counseling Curriculum, we like to survey the students about what topics are most important to them this year. We find it incredibly useful to gather our students’ input when crafting our services. We do this by administering a Student Needs Survey to gather data. We will begin conducting the survey on Tuesday, October 4th. If you would like to opt your student out of participating in the survey, please contact your counselor.
Thank you so much,
Chinook School Counseling Team
Fall 2022 SchoolPool Campaign
We are one of the 21 schools that chose to participate in the Fall 2022 SchoolPool Campaign! We will celebrate Walk & Roll to School Day (October 12), and we encourage families and students to walk and roll during Walk & Roll to School Week (October 10-13). If you live too far to walk to school, you may consider parking in the school vicinity and walk the rest of the route, or carpooling.
Bellevue SchoolPool is a program that encourages families and students to explore sustainable transportation options for their commute to and from school and alleviate congestion at drop-off and pick-up times and locations.
The Bellevue SchoolPool team will provide student incentives in the form of branded promotional materials, and flyer/safety tip handouts. Our school will receive $1,000 direct monetary incentives.
For maps of pedestrian and bicycle facilities in our schools attendance area, and information about the school speed zones, visit the Routes to School web map. Click on our school to find a printable map for your route.

Suicide Prevention Awareness Month
September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, the perfect time to share what BSD is doing to teach our youth how to care for their mental health, look out for their friends, and access adult support. BSD is proud to be offering the Signs of Suicide (SOS) curriculum to students in grades 7-11 this year.
- High school students in grades 9-11 will receive an SOS lesson at school in one of these time windows: 9/26-10/7 or 1/31-2/10.
- Middle school students in grades 7-8 and choice school students in grades 7-11 will receive an SOS lesson at school in one of these time windows: 10/17-10/28 or 2/27-3/10.
Parents will receive a letter explaining SOS via email and can choose to opt their child out of the lesson prior to their child receiving the SOS lesson. Learn more about SOS.
Mental health resources, recorded parenting skills presentations, and more can be found at our new BSD Mental Health Services webpage.
We all have a role in preventing suicide in our community. You don’t have to have any special training to ACKNOWLEDGE warning signs of depression or suicide, show the person you CARE, and tell a trusted adult or professional.
Dial 988 to reach the National Suicide Prevention and Crisis Lifeline
988 has been designated as the new three-digit dialing code that will route callers to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Learn more.

Reporting COVID-19 Cases and Outbreaks
The updated guidance from WA DOH requires notification to staff, students and their families when there are cases and outbreaks in schools. The Bellevue School District maintains an online dashboard for this purpose. COVID-19 cases for the 2022-23 school year are located on the COVID-19 Cases in Schools Dashboard, with data updated daily at 7:00 a.m.
