Greetings Chinook Middle School Community,

I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving break, filled with good times and relaxation. As I take a moment to reflect on what I’m thankful for, I wanted to share a few thoughts with you.

I am thankful for our dedicated students who consistently approach each school day with a focus on learning. I am thankful for the support from families that is instrumental in creating a strong partnership that greatly benefits our students. A special thanks to our hardworking staff for their dedication and going above and beyond to make sure great things happen for our students.

The next few weeks may be a sprint to the winter break, but I have full confidence that, together, we’ll have a productive and successful remainder of 2023!

News and updates below.

In Partnership,

James Peterson

I-Connect: A Parent’s Guide to Middle School Student Anxiety

Wednesday, November 29, 2023

Topic:  A Parent’s Guide to Middle School Student Anxiety

Guest Speaker: Kate Boscolo, MHAT Counselor

Come join Kate Boscolo at the 3rd I-Connect meeting of the year in the Library at Chinook Middle School as we tackle the topic of anxiety in middle school students. All parents and guardians are invited to attend.

Kate will address a variety of topics including:

  • How to recognize signs that your student might be struggling with anxiety
  • What you can do to support your student who is experiencing anxiety
  • What preventative measures you can take to promote healthy coping and positive mental health even if your student isn’t experiencing anxiety

Bring your own questions for the audience Q&A portion of the program!

The meeting will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. Please arrive a few minutes early to sign in. Coffee and tea will be served.

I-Connect meetings are informative monthly gatherings that provide an opportunity for parents and guardians to network with others in our school community. Chinook PTSA proudly sponsors this program.

What is Chinook I-Connect?  Chinook I-Connect is an award-winning PTSA program that connects new and existing parents/guardians to build relationships, foster participation, and strengthen our school community. With this in mind, I-Connect puts together informal, monthly meetings that focus on topics that are relevant to the middle school parent community, such as education, parenting, diversity, and community. We believe that by meeting face-to-face, sharing our experiences and thoughts, and giving each other tips and advice, we will strengthen and enhance our Chinook family. More info:

School Funding 101 – Understanding Our Money Sources

Learn more about the district’s sources of money and how we can spend them. In school districts, we have multiple buckets of funds where our money is accounted for — General Fund, Capital and Technology Fund and Building Fund. Each of these funds has designated uses and we as a district are limited in how we can transfer money between these funds based on state law.

PTSA Membership and the Kodiak Korner

If you still haven’t joined our PTSA or signed up to receive our Kodiak Korner, please do so on our website. Getting the Kodiak Korner will keep you informed on the events and activities coming up for the kids!

The Bellevue School District acknowledges that we learn, work, live and gather on the Indigenous Land of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Duwamish and Snoqualmie Tribes. We thank these caretakers of this land, who have lived and continue to live here, since time immemorial.
