Purpose

The purpose of the Biology (High School Biology and Middle School Gifted Biology) Instructional Materials Adoption Committee is to carry out the instructional materials selection process and make a recommendation to the Instructional Materials Committee based upon objective evidence gathered during the process. The decision will be based on what is in the best interest of our students, alignment with the Next Generation Science Standards, our district mission and core values.

Committee Composition

The committee for Biology Instructional Materials Adoption will have the following composition:

  • Facilitated by the Science Curriculum Developer
  • High School Biology Teachers
  • Gifted Middle School Biology Teachers
  • School Administrator(s)
  • Special Education Teacher or Developer
  • English Language Learner Facilitator or Developer
  • Parents

The parent committee members will be selected from the applications submitted.

Responsibilities of Parent Representatives

  • Attend scheduled meetings
  • Serve as a communication link to the community they represent
  • Help support informational meetings for parents and community members, as needed
  • Assist in collecting data regarding the instructional materials under consideration

December 19, 2018 – Use the unit evaluation documents to review Inquiry Hub – Why Don’t Antibiotics Work Like They Used To?

February 27, 2019 – Use the unit evaluation documents to review Educurious – Environmental Health

March 20, 2019 – Use the course evaluation documents to review both materials

April 24, 2019 – Review data, determine if we have enough evidence to make a recommendation

May 15, 2019 – Continue reviewing data while considering implementation, vote, implementation planning

May 23, 2019 – Instructional Materials Committee presentation
