Purpose

The purpose of the Reading Support Adoption Committee is to carry out the instructional materials selection process for materials for Reading Lab (middle school), Literacy Lab (high school), and select Targeted Reading classes, plus use in some 4th and 5th grade classrooms. The committee will make a recommendation to the Instructional Materials Committee based upon objective evidence gathered during the process. The committee will include teacher representatives, building/district administration and parent representatives. The committee will be facilitated by the K-12 Literacy Curriculum Developer and a secondary reading support facilitator.

Role

  • Attend scheduled meetings
  • Serve as a communication link to the community they represent
  • Assist in collecting data regarding the instructional materials under consideration
  • Through a consensus process, make a formal recommendation to the Instructional Materials Committee
