This information applies to students who are children of eligible Employees of the Bellevue School District.
The application period for Open Transfer and Choice Schools/Programs for the upcoming school year begins Monday of the first full week in December and ends Friday of the second full week in January; the actual dates will be posted on the BSD website.
Open Transfer: If you want to enroll a new student in grades K – 12 in the Bellevue School District for the upcoming school year, you will need to submit an Open Transfer application requesting enrollment at your preferred school; unless you are BSD residents and you’re planning to enroll at your attendance area school.
Choice Schools/Programs: Entry level is:
- incoming kindergarten students applying to Jing Mei, Puesta del Sol & Spanish DL Program
- incoming 6th grade students applying to International and Big Picture School
- incoming kindergarten, 1st or 2nd grade students applying to the Arabic Language program
- incoming kindergarten through 12th grade students applying to Bellevue Digital Discovery School
You will use the Choice Schools/Program entry level application process to apply to each applicable school/program you are interested in. Your incoming kindergartener may apply to (all 3) Jing Mei, Puesta del Sol and the Spanish Dual Language program (at Lake Hills, Sherwood Forest or Stevenson), and kindergarten, 1st & 2nd grades may apply to the Arabic Language program, K -12th grade may apply to Digital Discovery School and incoming 6th grade students may apply to both International School and/or Big Picture School.
Current BSD students who wish to attend a different school need to submit an Open Transfer application for the desired attendance area school.
Current BSD nonresident students enrolled in an attendance area school who are changing school levels need to submit an Open Transfer application for the desired new attendance area school.
Current BSD students will NOT submit an Open Transfer and/or Choice School application if
- they are moving up levels in a language program (i.e. Spanish Immersion, Dual Language Mandarin/Spanish).
- you are BSD residents and your student is continuing in your feeder pattern.
- your student is currently receiving Self-Contained Advanced Learning Services or services in Special Education center-based programs. Appropriate school placement for students in centered programs is determined by the department providing the services.
- your resident student has an approved transfer (Open Transfer, Request to Remain or Transfer Request) to attend their desired school and will remain at this school. These students will automatically roll up to the next grade if they have an approved transfer.
- your nonresident student has an approved interdistrict transfer and is advancing a grade level at the same school. You will have to submit the Choice Transfer Request for the new school year.
How do I know if I’m an eligible Bellevue School District employee?
Eligible Bellevue School District employees are defined as:
- classified employees who work 16 hours per week or more for a minimum of 180 days
- certificated employees who work 0.4 FTE or greater
Nonresident students of eligible BSD employees are considered as resident students for Open Transfer and Choice School/Program applications. Please indicate if you are an eligible BSD employee when submitting your applications. Student Placement will verify employment status with Human Resources.
Eligible Employee Status: To qualify your student for employee status, you must be an eligible employee for your student to be accepted for enrollment and be employed by the District when your student’s enrollment begins. Once enrolled with eligible employee status your student may continue in the feeder pattern to that school, even in the event that you are no longer employed by the District. Employee status will be revoked if your student does not remain in good standing or withdraws or is withdrawn from the District.
Open Transfer
Eligible employees (resident and nonresident) with students new to BSD will need to go through the online Open Transfer process, unless you are BSD residents planning to enroll at your attendance area school. You must be an eligible District employee for your student to be accepted and when they begin attending. Once enrolled your student(s) may continue in the feeder pattern to the accepted school, even in the event you are no longer employed by the District.
Eligible Employees Who Work at a School must use the Open Transfer process
- Your student is guaranteed to enroll at the school or in the feeder pattern where you are employed, this applies to both resident and nonresident eligible employees. You must be an eligible employee at the school for your student to be accepted and when they begin attending. Once enrolled your student(s) may continue in the feeder pattern to that school, even in the event you are no longer employed by the District.
- If your student is not currently enrolled at a Bellevue School District school you need to submit an Open Transfer application for the school you want, even if you are requesting the school where you work (unless as a resident you want your student to enroll in your assigned attendance area school).
Employees who do not work at a school must use the Open Transfer process
- Your student is guaranteed a space at a school in the District. Student Placement will work with you to find a spot if the school you request is not available. Please submit one Open Transfer online application for the one school you are interested in.
Employees who want to request a different school for their current student must use the Open Transfer process
Eligible employees (resident and nonresident) who have a student currently enrolled in the District and want to request enrollment at a different BSD school will need to go through the online Open Transfer process (unless as a resident you want your student to enroll in your assigned attendance area school).
Choice Schools/Program
Employees students may apply to all applicable Choice Schools/Programs.
Students of all eligible employees (resident and nonresident) interested in Choice Schools/Programs will need to apply through the online Choice Schools/Program Application process.
