AP U.S. Government Textbook Adoption Committee

Purpose

The purpose of the AP U.S. Government Instructional Materials Adoption Committee is to carry out the instructional materials selection process and make a recommendation to the Instructional Materials Committee based up on objective evidence gathered during the process. The decision will be based on what is in the best interest of our students, alignment with Washington State Social Studies and C3 Framework Standards, and district mission and core values.

Responsibilities of Parent Representatives

• Attend scheduled meetings
• Serve as a communication link to the community they represent
• Help support informational meetings for parents and community members, as needed
• Assist in collecting data regarding the instructional materials under consideration

Pilot Materials

Piloting began February 27, 2023 and will end April 7, 2023.

January 2023 to February 2023 – Adoption Committee previewed four resources:

• American Government: Stories of a Nation – Bedford, Freeman, Worth
• American Democracy, Now – McGraw-Hill
• Government in America: People, Politics, and Policy – Savvas (current text)
• American Government: Roots and Reform – Savvas

After meeting February 9, 2023, the team selected two resources to pilot:

• American Government: Stories of a Nation
• American Democracy, Now
