Now Enrolling – Kindergarten!

If you have or know of a student who will be 5 years old by Aug. 31, they can now enroll in kindergarten. Learn how to enroll a student here: https://bsd405.org/schools/kindergarten/

BSD is also enrolling for our in-person preschool programs for children ages 3-5. BSD offers full and half day options for students. Research has shown that high-quality preschool programs boost the kinds of learning, social and thinking skills needed for later achievement. Preschool registration forms and more information is at https://bsd405.org/programs/boost/preschool/

Young Author’s Week

Young Author’s Day is a many year tradition at Eastgate and is a time to celebrate our students’ as writers. This year there will be published author presentations during specialists, opportunities for students to share their writing on a FlipGrid, and a chance for our 4th and 5th grade students to be in a Drama Club and present writing in a reader’s theater format. All this will happen the week of May 23rd.

4th and 5th grade students – Readers Theater for Young Author’s Day this year will be virtual! We will be rehearsing and filming (via TEAMS) the video for the drama portion of Young Author’s Day.

If you interested in helping with the Reader’s Theater for Young Author’s Day this year, would like to an actor/actress, helping with animation or presentation, please complete this form https://forms.office.com/r/QHh8bSYMWG due Friday May 14th. Scripts, rehearsals, and taping will happen the week of May 17th during lunch and/or after school.

Each student can create and access a personal webpage at https://eastgateelementary.walkstarter.org  Follow the link and click on “My Walkstarter” to set up an account for your student. The Walk-a-Thon is our primary annual fundraiser that helps over 30 programs the PTA sponsors each year. This is an excellent opportunity for the students to be directly involved in raising funds that benefit their school while engaging in a fun, healthy, safely-socially-distanced activity.

BSD Mathematics – Philosophy and Evolution
Please join us on May 19 to hear about the work in BSD to modernize and enhance our current P-12 math system and to have your voice shared. We will be joined by Dr. Ivan Duran, Superintendent of Bellevue School District; Dr. Phil Daro, leading international mathematics education researcher and one of the main authors of the Common Core State Standards; and Dr. Paul Conley, Mathematics Curriculum Developer in Bellevue School District.

The over-arching theme of our conversation together will be:

  • Why we need to modernize and enhance our current P-12 math curriculum and program
  • How other high-performing countries and school districts have made changes in mathematics to put students at the forefront and how BSD can lead the country in mathematics
  • How BSD can give each and every one of our students a global and national advantage to make them more competitive for college and career aspirations
  • The work happening right now in BSD and work moving forward to continue to modernize and enhance our P-12 math system

There will be time at the end of the meeting for Q&A.

Parent and community voice and support will be critical to the success of ensuring EVERY student in BSD is equipped to reach their college and career aspirations they want. This is meant to be the first of many opportunities to strengthen our shared vision and collaboration between our Bellevue Community and Bellevue School District. Click here to learn more.
