Now Enrolling – Kindergarten!

If you have or know of a student who will be 5 years old by Aug. 31, they can now enroll in kindergarten. Learn how to enroll a student here: https://bsd405.org/schools/kindergarten/

BSD is also enrolling for our in-person preschool programs for children ages 3-5. BSD offers full and half day options for students. Research has shown that high-quality preschool programs boost the kinds of learning, social and thinking skills needed for later achievement. Preschool registration forms and more information is at https://bsd405.org/programs/boost/preschool/

5th Grade Promotion – June 22

5th Grade Families, we are excited to share our 5th grade promotion plans with you. We recognize that the past 1.5 years have made for an interesting experience for our students, and especially for our 5th graders. For this reason, we are planning a 5th grade promotion event that allows students to have one last Eastgate experience while also ensuring safety protocols are in place. Our 5th grade promotion will consist of one last walk through the Eastgate building during a 5th grade parade, followed by a diploma/certificate presentation on the back field.

  • ALL 5th grade students are encouraged to participate – Students in Cohort B will attend the morning time only. There will be no afternoon classes for 5th grade students.
  • Students are asked to arrive by 9:45 (can arrive by bus earlier) and will meet at the front of the school. We will start at 10.
  • Families will make their way to the back field to set up for the diploma/certificate presentation
  • Families may group together on the field – we encourage you to bring a blanket and low camp chairs
  • Family groups will be spaced 6 feet apart from other families
  • Masks must be worn at all times while on campus
  • There will be live streaming of the promotion events (parade through school, ceremony) to allow for participation for families needing a virtual option and for families on the field to see the parade

2020-2021 School Year Updates

It is hard to believe the school year is coming to a close and we are already planning for next year. We have some exciting updates and a few goodbyes to say. Additionally, as we prepare for the upcoming school year, we need to hear from you regarding your enrollment intent as well as input on general learning environment for your child. We ask that families fill out the linked survey for each of their children (grades pre-k to 4). Please note – classroom placement information will come out the last week of August, prior to the start of school. Individual teacher requests will not be considered.

Our tentative class assignments for next year are:

Kindergarten – 2 classes – Kelly Sauve, Cassandra Shanklin

1st Grade – 3 classes – Sara Lockwood, Diana Forsman, Tiffany Ostlund

2nd Grade – 3 classes – Kelli Lane, Kristine Tan, Natasha Nimmo

3rd Grade – 3 classes – Jenny Rosenthal, Jannette Rotz, Angela Wulbert

4th Grade – 3 classes – Alex Rea, Shail Azhar, and Emma Snyder – who is joining us from Cherry Crest Elementary

5th Grade – 3 classes – Inna Bobick, Olivia Ingersoll, Doug Faulkner

We do have a few goodbyes to share also:

  • Ellen Hall – Ms. Hall and her family recently moved to England
  • Sadie Hirshberg – Ms. Hirshberg will be moving to Sun Valley, Idaho and is excited to start her new role as an advance learning teacher
  • Nancy Foster – Ms. Foster will be retiring at the end of the school year. Here is a message from Ms. Foster

Dear Eastgate Community,

I want to personally share with you that I will be retiring this year. A lot of factors went into this decision, but the main reason is I want to be able to care for my granddaughters while their parents work. They grow up so fast and I don’t want to miss a minute more than I have to.

I want you to know how much I cherish our Eastgate community. It’s a privilege and joy to know you. I can’t thank you enough for all you do to support me in the library. From book fairs, Young Authors Day, coming in to help with checkouts and so much more.  I found friends in my volunteers and I’ll always be grateful.

Your children have brought me so much joy over the years! I have loved watching them grow from year to year and to see their love of books also grow. I am lucky to have played a small part.

Eastgate Family Engagement Survey
Thank you to those of you who have already responded to the Family Engagement survey. If you haven’t responded yet, please take our short survey – it should take less than 5 minutes – to give us your feedback and help us plan how to serve you better!  https://forms.office.com/r/6LkX5Vbhfu

Last Day of School

Elementary In-Person Students

The schedule for the last day of school (Tuesday, June 22) for hybrid, in-person students will be the typical AM/PM schedule with House A students coming in the morning and House B coming in the afternoon. Transportation will run on the typical Tuesday schedule for the last day of school. Students who typically attend school for the full-day at elementary will come for a half day in the morning on the last day of school. Since the last day of school is typically a shortened day for students so that teachers can complete year-end tasks in the afternoon before summer vacation starts, we will make the morning of Wednesday, June 16, an asynchronous learning morning so that teachers have the time they need to complete year-end tasks.

Elementary Virtual Students

The schedule for the last day of school for virtual elementary students will be their regular morning schedule.
