The Racial Equity Film Series is a yearlong exploration into films that highlight a wide range of racial issues. Each film explores how race affects our different communities; from the Black Panthers to the prison industrial complex to white privilege. This film series seeks to deepen our understanding about the nuances of race. There will be a discussion after each film facilitated by the equity specialist. This film series is specifically intended for adults.

Movie: Beyond Borders
Date: March 7
Description: This documentary explains the Mexico-U.S. relationship and the U.S. policy decisions that lead to undocumented immigration.

Movie: 13th
Date: April 4
Description: Filmmaker Ava Duvernay explores the history of racial inequality in the U.S. as it pertains to the prison system and the 13th amendment.

Movie: Lords of the Revolution (at the Sammamish High School library)
Date: May 16
Description: This film focuses on the Black Panther Party and their impact on public policy and culture for black Americans shortly after the civil rights movement.

Movie: Precious Knowledge
Date: June 6
Description: Disenfranchised high schoolers become community leaders in Tuscon, Arizona’s ethic studies class while lawmakers attempt to shutdown the program.

Movie: American Revolutionary: The Evolution of Grace Lee Boggs and the Chinese Exclusion Act
Date: June 18
Description: This double feature will explore important historical moments and figures of Chinese American history.
