Planning for the Future – District Updates

Last Updated March 22, 2023

The Bellevue School District recognizes that there are many impacts to our learning community resulting from the recommendation put forth to the school board at the February 9, 2023, meeting of the Board of Directors. Although the Board has not yet come to a final decision on the recommendation, this site serves as a resource for families as we continue to plan for the future.

Background information on this topic can be found on the District Budget webpage.

Student Placement And School Transfer Opportunity

For families directly impacted by school consolidations, a transfer opportunity to another Bellevue School District elementary school will be available once a final decision is reached by the School Board at their March 16, 2023, meeting. After this date, impacted families will receive email communication from student placement regarding their new assigned attendance area school. In that email, families will be provided a special link that will allow them to apply to a different school if they wish. Thank you for your patience in waiting until you receive the email to request a different school.

  • Week of February 27, 2023 – Open student transfer process and initiate personal contact with families
  • Dates in March
    • End of open transfer process

Early Learning/Preschool

Preschool staff are gathering feedback by calling every family with a student enrolled in the preschool program at Ardmore, Eastgate, and Wilburton elementaries who is eligible to return for the 2023-2024 school year. This input will help to determine which preschool location each family would prefer to attend for the 2023-2024 year and ensure impacted families know that they have choice in placement.

Transportation

Bus routes will be affected as a result of the recommendation with transportation boundaries potentially shifted for impacted schools. Please check back once a final decision has been reached for more information.

  • Week of February 13, 2023 – Develop initial transportation plan and DRAFT school start times
  • Week of March 13, 2023 and March 20, 2023 – Adjust transportation plan based on feedback from regional teams, if needed

Advanced Learning

Advanced learning staff have sent out a survey to families to gather ideas on ways to ensure positive transition, necessary supports for students and an invitation to families to take part in a focus group for further input/idea generation which will take place week of March 6.

Special Education

Special education staff will send a survey to all families with students receiving services in the Olympic program.  A focus group will be formed at Eastgate Elementary School to gather additional feedback and input during the week of March 6.  A special education advisory group will be formed to review recommendations from families and provide guidance on how to improve special education services.

Human Resources

Staff impacted by the proposed recommendations can find more information through the Staff Portal.
