In the event of an emergency, the district may use one of the schedules listed below.

Important: Details for each schedule may be based on the specific situation and will be communicated through direct messages to staff and families.

One Hour Late Start

  • All Bellevue schools and full day programs, including Early & Extended Learning Programs would start one hour late and dismiss at the normal time. Part day AM and PM preschool classes would be canceled.

How would this affect transportation?

  • Buses would run one hour late from their regular schedule.
  • If your student uses Metro, check their website for the best available route at http://metro.kingcounty.gov/.
    • During periods of poor weather, Metro would attempt to maintain service according to their regular schedule — even if school is to start late. Please listen to messages and have alternative means arranged to get to and from school if poor weather is present or predicted.
  • Morning and midday shuttles would be canceled.
  • There would be no district transportation for part-day preschool classes.
  • There would be no out of district transportation, including:
    • McKinney-Vento taxi service
    • Shuttles between schools
    • Tutorial or activity buses
  • Important: If limited bus service is necessary, please check with your school office or the district website for limited bus stop locations.

What would be canceled?

  • Tutorial and after school activities for elementary and middle schools.
  • Breakfast would not be served at schools.

Two Hour Late Start

  • All Early & Extended Learning Programs would be closed.
  • Community use of district facilities would be canceled.
    • If school is closed on a Friday due to weather related conditions, there is no facility use on the weekend, even if weather conditions improve.
  • All catering orders would be canceled.

Early Dismissal

  • All Bellevue schools would be dismissing early.
  • Early & Extended Learning Programs would close at elementary school dismissal time. Afterschool programs would not open. Preschool staff would contact parents to inform them of poor weather conditions.

How would this affect transportation?

  • There would be regular bus service.
    • Please plan to meet at your student’s bus stop or ensure that your student has an emergency plan in place.
    • Students uncomfortable getting off the bus would be returned to BSD Transportation to await parent/guardian pick-up.
  • If your student uses Metro, check their website for the best available route at http://metro.kingcounty.gov/.
    • During periods of poor weather, Metro would attempt to maintain service according to their regular schedule. Please listen to messages and have alternative means arranged to get to and from school if poor weather is present or predicted.
  • There would be no activity bus transportation for elementary and middle schools.
  • Field trip groups that are already out would be returned to school.
  • Important: If limited bus service is necessary, please check with your school office or the district website for limited bus stop locations.

What would be canceled?

  • Tutorial would be canceled.
  • Community use of district facilities would be canceled.
    • If school is dismissed early on a Friday due to weather related conditions, there would be no facility use on the weekend, even if weather conditions improve.

Metro Service During Snow Days

All high schools, Bellevue Big Picture and International School use Metro. During periods of poor weather, Metro will attempt to maintain service according to their regular schedule — even if school is to start late. Please listen to messages and have alternative means arranged to get to and from school if poor weather is present or predicted.
