Spanish Dual Language Program
Overview
Students from two language backgrounds learn together while instruction is systematically delivered in two languages. Students read, write, listen and speak in both languages becoming bilingual, biliterate and bicultural while working towards grade level academic achievement. Dual language offers a chance for students add another language while at the optimal age for language learning.

Alumnos procedentes de dos grupos lingüísticos aprenden juntos mientras la enseñanza se imparte de forma sistemática en dos idiomas. Los alumnos leen, escriben, escuchan y hablan en los dos idiomas con el fin de ser bilingüe, bicultural y alfabetizados tanto en inglés como español al trabajar hacia el logro académico al nivel de grado El Lenguaje Dual le ofrece al alumno la oportunidad para adquirir otro idioma a la edad óptima para el aprendizaje de idiomas.
Is Dual Language Right for My Child?
Middle School Dual Language is right for any child with Spanish and English language abilities looking to further develop their academic and language skills in both English and Spanish
Dedicated teachers will provide supports in English and Spanish to meet the needs of every child as they work towards grade level and advanced coursework in English and Spanish.
Middle School Dual Language will prepare children for rigorous high school and college courses in English and Spanish through building their capacity to be bilingual, biliterate and bicultural.

El programa de Lenguaje Dual a nivel de la escuela intermedia es apropiado para cualquier estudiante con dominio del español e inglés buscando a seguir desarrollando sus habilidades académicos y lingüísticos en español e inglés.

Apply for Dual Language
Most students begin the Spanish Dual Language Program in Kindergarten. Applications for the program are available in mid-January before a student begins Kindergarten. If you would like to join the waiting list for another grade, please contact the school.
Typical Day
A typical day for a 6th grade Dual Language student at Highland will consist of 7 classes with support from a dedicated bilingual teacher to support instruction in Spanish and English.

*English Language Arts, Social Studies and Math will be taught in a block by a dedicated bilingual teacher in grade 6.
