Dear Parents,

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year at Jing Mei Elementary!

We hope you are enjoying the beautiful summer in the greater Seattle area. We are looking forward to welcoming back our students and seeing how much they’ve grown over the summer.  We want to hear about their summer adventures!

This communication is intended to provide some general information including a few important dates.  There will be additional emails and information coming out in the future.

Throughout the year we will send Principal Messages via the classroom newsletters so please pay attention to your homeroom teacher’s emails.  We often announce time sensitive events and sign-ups so don’t miss out by neglecting your school emails!

We look forward to seeing you again and meeting our new families.  Jing Mei is a very special community because you are a part of it!

Transportation

If your child is taking the school bus home, please check out the updated bus route information here: https://bsd405.org/departments/transportation/bus-routes/ (For now, the district is offering this information for the first two weeks of school.)

The district Transportation webpage provides families with information on bus routes for the 2022-23 school year. Fall updates will be made available by mid-August. Families can also enroll in the district’s bus tracking programto stay informed about their student’s transportation.

Returning students who ride BSD buses may continue to use last year’s scan cards for boarding the bus this school year. Please contact us at bsdbuspass@bsd405.org to replace lost cards. Scan cards will be sent to your student’s school for distribution.

School Supply List

If you had ordered through PTSA’s SchoolKidz, your supply kit is already delivered to your child’s classroom.

If you did not order through SchoolKidz, here is our supply list for the new school year.  It is not necessary to purchase any or all of these supplies.  Your homeroom teacher will reach out for donations if we don’t gather enough supplies.

Kindergarten Families:  Parent-Teacher Conference 9/1, 9/2, 9/6

The Washington State WAKids initiative recognizes that success at school means a strong home-school connection.  We would like to invite kindergarten parents for a start-of-school-year virtual conference with their teachers to learn about each child’s strengths and home support.  Ms. Naomi has emailed kindergarten parents with information as well as links to signing up for the 20-minute conference.  You have the option of meeting in person or online.  If you are a kindergarten parent and you haven’t signed up for a conference slot, please check for the email Ms. Naomi sent on 8/17.

School Lunch/Free and Reduced-Price Meals

BSD Nutrition Serviceswill start charging fees for student meals for the 2022-23 school year. Nutrition Services uses PayPAMS for online payments for meals. Families can use PayPAMS to set up low balance reminders and automatic deposits. Families may also choose to pay for meals by check or cash at their child’s school. Application for Free and Reduced-Price Meals will be available in mid-August. View weekly lunch menus.

When students buy lunch, students will use their student ID number instead of the PIN number. Please practice remembering the student ID number with your child at home if possible. We will give our keypad flyer with your student’s ID number during ice cream social event on 8/30 from 5-6pm. We will send the flyer home if you cannot make it to the ice cream social event on 8/30.

I will share the staff information next week. You will be notified of your child’s teacher/class placement via email on August 30th before 4pm.  If you do not receive an email from your child’s teacher on 8/30, feel free to come by on 8/30 5-6 for our ice cream social event to find out your child’s placement.
