Lake Hills celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Black History Month in a school wide assembly February 5, 2020.  Ms. Doton’s 2nd Grade class led the school in the call and response song of “Sing About Martin” while translating it through sign language. A select group of students in Mr. Guerrero and Ms. Garcia’s class presented portions of MLK Jr. “I Have A Dream” speech in Spanish and English.  Students from every grade level shared their definitions of peace and freedom that have been impacted by MLK Jr.  Next small presentations were made from 4th graders about 4 unique people of color. The LHE choir performed “Roar” during a video tribute to African American forerunners which included Kobe Bryant.  The school joined in singing in the classic Civil Rights song “We Shall Overcome” while pounding the floor to create a marching beat.  The final part of the celebration was the announcement of the African American Door Decorating Contest by Mr. Macias.
