Welcome to the 2021-22 school year at Lake Hills Elementary! We hope you are enjoying the beautiful Northwest summer. We are thrilled that we will all be back together in our beautiful building this school year. This communication is intended to provide some general information including a few important dates. We will provide detailed information on safety measures and school procedures later in August through additional emails, and postings and videos on our website. In the meantime, please enjoy the rest of the summer and reach out to us if you have any questions. Note: Our office is scheduled to open on August 23rd. We do have a new office manager, Gina Kirilenko, as the amazing Ardath Flickinger has retired. She will be missed and we are excited to welcome Gina to the Lake Hills family!

First Day of School and Bell Times: The first day of school for students in Grades 1-5 is Wednesday, September 1st. The first day of school for Kindergarten is Friday, September 3rd. Lake Hills will have the same bell times as in previous years. Class begins at 8:40 each day and ends at 3:10 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. On Wednesdays, school ends at 12:55pm. We will send out additional information about recommended staggered arrival and dismissal by grade as we get closer to the first day of school.

Class Placement: You will be notified of your child’s teacher/class placement via email on August 30th. If you do not receive this email, feel free to call the Lake Hills office beginning on August 31st at 425.456.5300.

| Back to School Orientation: We will be sharing a video “Back to School Orientation” with all families. A link to the video will be emailed to families and posted on our website by the evening of Thursday, August 26th. Kindergarten Orientation: As part of WA Kids, our kindergarten teachers, Ms. Jurista, Ms. Ashraf, and Ms. Baugh will be reaching out to schedule a time to meet with each of our kindergarten families individually to get to know a bit about your child and family. Most of these meeting times will occur before the first day of kindergarten, Friday, September 3rd. Be on the lookout for more information coming from our kindergarten teachers soon.

School Supplies: The school supplies list is posted in our webside: https://bsd405.org/lakehills/ Every Lake Hills Elementary School student will be supplied with the instructional materials (e.g. textbooks, workbooks, paper, pencils, crayons, etc.) necessary for their academic success. We recognize children often like to bring their own supplies to supplement what we provide at school. Items you may choose to send with your child will be shared with the rest of the grade and help us stretch school resources further.

| COVID Protocols and Procedures at LHE: We take all guidance from the CDC, WA’s Department of Health and state and school leaders. As safety protocols and procedures as finalized over the next week we will be sharing them with all of you. Some of this information will be covered in our Back to School Orientation video we share on Thursday, August 26th. Returning Second GradersReturning 2nd graders will exchange their current school-issued iPad, power cord and stylus for a new Lenovo 11e laptop on Thursday, September 2nd. Transportation: The Bellevue School District provides free transportation for students who reside within their school’s attendance area, but outside their school’s walking boundary. All elementary schools have a one-mile walk path boundary. The transportation department will mail home specific information about your child’s exact pick-up/drop-off location and times a few days before school starts. | Lake Hills PTSA: Unfortunately, at this time we do not have a PTSA at Lake Hills. We are hoping that there will be interest from families to start one. Welcome to the 2021-22 School Year (Important Information) – Bienvenidos al año escolar 2021-22 (Información importante)
The Bellevue School District acknowledges that we learn, work, live and gather on the Indigenous Land of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Duwamish and Snoqualmie Tribes. We thank these caretakers of this land, who have lived and continue to live here, since time immemorial.
