Wrestlers or those Interested in wrestling. We will be having an informational meeting for Newport Wrestling this Thursday after school. It will be at 3:45 in the weight room. Wrestling is a sport that is open to boys or girls, and to anyone of any size. There are weight classes for anyone. If you are looking for a new sport to try, or you didn’t think there was any sport for you, come to our meeting on Thursday to find out more.

This Week’s Student Events and Activities
2018 Senior Class Meeting/Photo: Wednesday, November 1st at 1:30 PM in the PAC. There will be a representative from Jostens here to pass out packets and talk to the seniors about ordering graduation announcements, caps & gowns, etc. The PTSA GradKnight representatives will have a presentation about GradKnight as well. At 2:00 PM, the seniors will be dismissed for their Senior Class Photo.
Key Club – Hey Newport! Come to our next meeting on Tuesday, October 31st. We will be hand making cards to send to Seattle Children’s Hospital for hospitalized patients. Art supplies and snacks will be provided.
Newport Idol 2017! Is THIS Friday, November 3rd at 7 PM, NHS Theater. Tickets: $10 for adults/general admission, $5 Newport Students with ASB Card, and $8 Students without ASB. Tickets can be purchased through the Voices of Newport website, during both lunches, 10/31, 11/2 and 11/3 and at the event starting at 6:00 PM. Parents, families and friends please come and enjoy the fun! ALL ticket sales will go to Voices of Newport Choir Booster Club to help us support our wonderful choir program.
Did you miss your chance to join the Newport Color Guard team during their fall season? The Color Guard is having tryouts for their winter season – Winter Guard. Tryouts will be held in the outside gym on November 2nd, November 7th, and November 9th from 6 to 9 PM. Students interested must attend all tryout days. Winter Guard requires no prior experience and is a unisex activity.
Registration for Winter Sports on FamilyID is live until Friday, November 10th at 4 PM. If you want to participate in a winter sport you must have a current physical on file with Mrs. Jones, ASB Secretary, have no outstanding fines, and will need to register on www.FamilyID.com. Basketball, wrestling, girls gymnastics, and boys swim and dive are the sports offered in the winter. The first day of gymnastics will be Monday, November 6th, all other winter sports will begin Monday, November 13th.

Newport Sammamish Interlake Girls Lacrosse is now open for registrations at www.nsilacrosse.org .
NSI Girls Lacrosse high school team is the Bellevue School District sanctioned lacrosse teams for Sammamish, Interlake, Newport, and International High Schools. No experience is needed. Athletes have the opportunity to earn a sports letter by participating in girl’s lacrosse. In fact, many girls begin playing in 9th grade.
An informational meeting will be held on December 12, 2017 at the Lake Hills Library at 6:30 p.m. The meeting is designed to answer questions that new players may have about participating in the spring 2018 season. Current players are encouraged to bring a friend who wants to learn more about this exciting sport. Please see www.nsilacrosse.org for more information.
Get a Hot Breakfast Every Morning at Newport – Remember that our cafeteria serves hot breakfast every morning starting at 8 AM for a small fee paid with your district lunch account. Students using the free and reduced-price meal program can use that for breakfast. An Express Lunch is offered on Wednesday during the nutritional break at 11:35 AM.
Winter Sports Conditioning is Here! The Newport Girls Basketball coaching staff is proud to announce the start of a winter sports conditioning program. The sessions will run every Tue/Thu from 5:30 to 6:30 PM and is open to all Newport High School eligible students. Activities will vary between track work, hills, stairs, plyometrics and more! The program will help any winter-sport participants prepare for their upcoming season. Open gym will follow each workout from 6:30 to 7:30 PM.

Ocean Science Club is a club for those interested in marine science! Join us for lessons and buzzer questions as we prepare for the annual Orca Bowl, a high-stakes marine science trivia competition. We meet every Wednesday morning at 7:50 in Mrs. Gray’s room, room 3111! Snacks will be provided.

The varsity baseball field and batting cages will be open on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday after school until November 1st depending on the weather. The facilities will be supervised and are open and available to all students at Newport.

Volunteer for Ski Swap – Ski Swap has been a success for the past 31 years. It has helped the PTSA raise over $850,000 through 31 years. It works because our students and parents volunteer during the four-day event. Students earn community service hours towards graduation and Knight Valor award.
